Clutch help

From the first connection to everyday use. Every step in one place.

Start by connecting

You need Clutch and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. To set up from a Mac, you need Apple Silicon, macOS 15 or later, and a USB cable that supports data transfer.

The instructions below apply to the Clutch alpha. Enter credentials only in the app or on the service’s official page.

Step-by-step help

First connection with iPhone

You do not need a computer for basic alerts and weather.

  1. Open Wi-Fi settings on Clutch. Scan the QR code with the iPhone camera and agree to join the Clutch network.
  2. Clutch will show that the phone has connected. Wait for the setup page. If it does not open, open http://192.168.4.1 in Safari while the iPhone is connected to the Clutch network.
  3. Choose your 2.4 GHz network from the list, enter the password, and select your region. If the network is hidden, enter its exact name manually.
  4. Tap to connect and wait for confirmation that the settings have been saved. Do not start another attempt while the current one is in progress. After a successful connection, Clutch returns to its widgets.
  5. If the password is incorrect or the server is unavailable, read the message and try again only after the attempt has finished. RESET restarts the device; it does not clear Wi-Fi settings.
First connection to Mac

Apple Silicon, macOS 15 or later, and a USB cable that supports data transfer.

  1. Open Clutch on your Mac and connect the device with a USB cable. A charging-only cable cannot be used for pairing.
  2. Select the detected Clutch in the first-connection assistant. If you have already set up Wi-Fi with iPhone, you do not need to enter it again.
  3. If Wi-Fi is not set up yet, find the network in the assistant, enter its password, and save. The app checks the server connection automatically; there is no separate button to confirm success.
  4. After the connection message appears, you can disconnect USB while keeping Clutch powered. The Mac and Clutch must be on the same local network. A Mac on 5 GHz and Clutch on 2.4 GHz can work together through one router.
  5. Change the brightness in the app: the Wi-Fi or USB confirmation shows how Clutch received the change. You do not need to pair again for reminders.
Changing networks and reconnecting

First check whether the device is reachable, then check access to the individual data source.

  1. In a new location, set up Clutch Wi-Fi with iPhone or through USB in the app. Connect the Mac to the same local network.
  2. Keep Clutch open: it automatically looks for the paired device after its IP address changes. You do not need to enter the old address manually.
  3. If the local connection does not return, check whether the router isolates clients on a guest network. Being able to open websites does not mean that the devices can see each other.
  4. Check Clutch’s local network permission in macOS System Settings. For a backup connection, use USB with data transfer.
  5. Your home Hue lights and Bambu printer will not automatically become available at a friend’s home. Netatmo and EcoFlow need access to their internet services; Codex needs an available account on this Mac.
Reminders and repeats

Your personal schedule is stored on your Mac and Clutch.

  1. Open reminders and add the text, date, and time. For a repeat, choose daily, weekdays, weekly, or monthly.
  2. Save the reminder. Transfer to Clutch starts automatically over Wi-Fi, or over USB if Wi-Fi is unavailable.
  3. Check the status: “saved on Mac” does not yet mean “saved on Clutch.” If there is no connection, the change stays in the queue and is sent when the connection returns.
  4. After the device confirms receipt, the card will appear on Clutch even with the app closed. The device must be on and have the correct time.
  5. The short reminder sound plays on a running Mac. The Hue light signal is enabled separately and requires an available Bridge.
  6. Deletions and edits also sync automatically. Before giving Clutch to another person, wait for confirmation that your personal reminders have been deleted.
Alerts, Telegram, and the Kyiv map

Official alerts and Telegram messages are separate sources.

  1. Select your region in alert settings. Official data arrives from the server without a running Mac.
  2. In Telegram settings, choose channels or add a public channel by name or link. Set keywords, such as “Лук’янівка” or “Татарка,” and save.
  3. Channels and rules are processed on the server. They work while the Mac sleeps; this does not connect private chats from your personal Telegram account.
  4. Double-tap the map of Ukraine on Clutch to open the Kyiv map. District mentions are shown based on available messages and the active alert state.
  5. In notifications, enable the sound you want on this Mac and Hue separately. Sound does not play on a sleeping or powered-off Mac.
  6. Clutch supplements official warning systems. A source delay or the absence of a highlighted area does not mean there is no danger.
Netatmo: temperature, humidity, and CO₂

Netatmo Home Coach is supported.

  1. Open Netatmo in Clutch connections and click “Sign in to Netatmo.” Sign in only on Netatmo’s official page.
  2. Check the request name and the permission to read Home Coach data. In the current alpha, the registration may be named “S2 Home Assistant.” Confirm access and return to Clutch.
  3. Choose a room. Readings are sent directly from the Mac to Clutch. When the app opens, the last measurement appears immediately and a new one is requested automatically.
  4. Double-tapping the “Room” screen requests an update. “No new measurements yet” means the sensor has not provided a new measurement yet; it is not a connection error.
Codex: limits and tokens

You need Codex or ChatGPT installed, with an available Codex runtime and a signed-in account.

  1. In the Codex connection, click “Choose Codex / ChatGPT” and select the installed app.
  2. Click “Allow account folder.” In the file picker, press ⇧⌘G, enter ~/.codex, and confirm with “Open.”
  3. Wait for limits and token statistics. Availability of this data depends on the current Codex runtime and account capabilities.
  4. Access is saved for future launches. If there is no data, check that you are signed in to Codex/ChatGPT and read Clutch’s guidance; you do not need to create a new connection every time.
EcoFlow: charge and mains power

The current alpha has been tested with an EU account and RIVER 3 Plus.

  1. Open EcoFlow in connections. Enter your EU account email and password and the power station’s serial number. You can find the serial number in the device details in the EcoFlow app.
  2. Click “Connect power station” and wait for data. Enter the password only in the app’s secure field; do not send it to support.
  3. For sound, open “On this Mac” notifications, enable sound, and use “Test EcoFlow” if needed. The sound should come from the current Mac or its selected audio output.
  4. Data updates automatically after the Mac wakes. The last readings may remain visible with an age indicator while the source is still unavailable.
Bambu Lab: print status, layers, and temperatures

The printer and Mac must be able to see each other on the local network.

  1. In Bambu connections, enter the printer’s IP address and serial number from its network settings and device details. Click “Check printer.”
  2. Check the detected device. If it is your printer on a trusted network, confirm this in the app. Enter the Access Code from the printer settings and connect.
  3. During printing, the card shows status, percentage, time remaining, layers, and nozzle/bed temperatures. Filament weight in grams is not estimated.
  4. After a print is canceled, minutes, layers, and percentage are removed; temperatures may remain during cooling. “Printer unavailable” means the connection has been lost, not that a power outage has been confirmed.
Philips Hue: light signals

You need a Hue Bridge on a reachable local network.

  1. Open the Hue connection and start a Bridge search. Check the detected Bridge.
  2. When Clutch asks, press the round button on the Bridge itself. The app will complete the connection; you do not need to copy an API key manually.
  3. Choose available lights and the events you want them to signal. Hue for alerts and reminders is configured separately.
  4. Run a short test when you can watch the lights. After the signal, they should return to their previous state.
  5. If some lights do not respond, check them in the Hue app, along with Bridge power and network access. Do not run repeated tests during unstable power.
Updating the firmware and app

Before updating, save your work and ensure a stable power supply.

  1. Open “Settings → Updates” in Clutch. Enable alpha versions if you need test builds.
  2. Choose an available compatible firmware version and click “Download to Mac.” Wait for the file check.
  3. Connect Clutch to this Mac with a USB cable that supports data transfer. Open USB transfer, check the connection, and send the package.
  4. When the transfer finishes, click “Install and restart.” Do not disconnect the cable during transfer or installation. If the app blocks the update because of an alert or power conditions, wait until conditions allow it.
  5. After the restart, wait for confirmation of the installed version and for the widgets to return. A verified installation took about 2 minutes 23 seconds; the actual time depends on conditions.
  6. To update the current DMG alpha, quit Clutch with ⌘Q, replace the app in Applications, and open it again. Re-pairing and setting up integrations again are usually unnecessary.
Stale data, a sleeping Mac, or an unavailable source

The measurement time and the connection check time are different things.

  1. Alerts and weather work through the server and Clutch Wi-Fi. Personal Codex, Netatmo, EcoFlow, and Bambu widgets receive new data through the open Mac app.
  2. While the Mac sleeps, Clutch shows the last saved values with an age indicator. The connection and data collection resume automatically after waking.
  3. An old weather or Netatmo measurement time does not by itself mean a failure: the source may not have published a new measurement yet. Connection errors are shown separately.
  4. If brightness changes but one widget does not update, the Mac → Clutch connection works: check that particular source’s connection in the app.
  5. If the problem remains, write to [email protected] with your Clutch version, firmware, macOS version, widget name, what you expected, and what happened. Include a screenshot with passwords, access codes, tokens, and private reminders removed.

Need help?

Tell us your Clutch, firmware, and macOS versions, what you were doing, and the message you saw. A screenshot helps; remove passwords, codes, and private text.
